Miss Robinson, our Class 4 teacher encouraged young artists to take part in the Royal Academy’s Young Artists’ Summer competition this year. There were amazing pieces entered from all years from Reception up to Year 8, including paintings, sketches and sculptures.

Miss Robinson was absolutely bowled over when two of these pieces were selected by judges to be displayed in London at the prestigious Royal Academy’s Young Artists’ Summer Exhibition, with all three winners selected by judges to be shown on the on-line exhibition as well.

The three pieces included two winning entries from Reception and one from Year 5. The two Reception pieces were nature and animal inspired, titledBees in a SunflowerandBunny World. The third piece that will be displayed as part of the exhibition was titled‘Jeff Buzzoff’by Ella from Year 5.

Jeff Buzzoffwas an interesting and insightful anti-Amazon clay model, when Ella was asked about her intricate miniature sized entry – she lit up and was keen to tell us all about it! Ella and her friend were out on a walk in a local wood when they stumbled across part of the woods that had been ‘deforested’. They stayed in this patch and that’s when inspiration struck.Ella and her friend picked up some clay and Ella made the tiniest hairbrush that could be used to groom her toy dogs. The moss on the handle and the bristles were made from the needles of a tree. All of the materials were found within two square metres of this patch in the woods. It was important to Ellathat the hairbrush was produced locally with no artificial materials and therefore fully biodegradable.

Ella wrote eloquently and passionately about her piece and clearly her art and her writing made an impact on the judges.

A huge well done to Ella and all of our highly creative students!

The Young Artists’ Summer Show 2023 takes place between 18 July – 13 August at the Clore Learning Centre in Burlington Gardens and brings together work by primary and secondary students from across the UK. The online exhibition opens from the 18 July 2023.#RAYoungArtists

Years 3-6 Sorts Day- Thursday 29th June, 2023 /avantipark/2023/07/10/years-3-6-sorts-day-thursday-29th-june-2023/ /avantipark/2023/07/10/years-3-6-sorts-day-thursday-29th-june-2023/#respond Mon, 10 Jul 2023 14:03:34 +0000 /avantipark/?p=2515 What a fantastic day Sports Day was!

This year, Key Stage 2&3 came together on the park for a day of sport and fun!

Years 3&4enjoyed competing in the obstacle race, a sprint (50m), distance run and vortex throw. Year 5&6, a sprint, a distance run of approximately 300m, a vortex throw and a standing jump. There were some fantastic Athletes both on track and field and everyone gave their all! The community spirit was clear to hear and children cheered on their peers alike. The parents race was popular in both sports sessions and staff even sported some dads limbering up 2 hours before their race!

The highlight was the “tug of war” between staff and parents at the end. The children’s faces were full of joy and laughter, especially when the parents reigned supreme and a number of staff ended up tumbling!

What a brilliant day of celebration and sport!

Year 7 & 8 Sports Day /avantipark/2023/07/05/year-7-8-sports-day/ /avantipark/2023/07/05/year-7-8-sports-day/#comments Wed, 05 Jul 2023 11:36:10 +0000 /avantipark/?p=2489 We had a brilliant Sports Day with Year 7&8. Students had opted into a sprint, longer distance run, a throw or a jump as well as a single sex or mixed relay team in their houses. What stood out to me was the excellent level of competitiveness and the support they gave to each other. We had some brilliant results with outstanding efforts from Gaius and Millie in Year 8 and Kayden and Sarina in Year 7. The relay races were really exciting and you could see the sheer determination and desire to win these particular races. We all enjoyed watching parents and carers race too. Lots of memories to take from the day!

Thank you also to all the fabulous Year 7 & 8 students who helped out with the KS1 and KS2 sports days. They were a brilliant help.

A Privet Hawk Moth visits the School /avantipark/2023/06/16/a-privet-hawk-moth-visits-the-school/ /avantipark/2023/06/16/a-privet-hawk-moth-visits-the-school/#respond Fri, 16 Jun 2023 13:27:17 +0000 /avantipark/?p=2466

Some pupils from Year 5 found a Privet Hawk Moth on the wall of the Yoga Studio today. It was 6 cm long and we decided that we needed to move the rather massive moth somewhere safe!

The boys then went and found out about the moth and this is their blog – written by Dante and Jacob Hewins.

The female Hawk Moth is much bigger than the male and can have a wingspan of up to 10 cm. They prefer to live in the South of the UK than in the North and the adult moths live for 30 days as an adult. They have and pink and black stripes under their wings and they like to eat nectar, juices from rotting food and fresh fruit.

The Privet Hawk Moth is the largest moth in the UK and there is one in Avanti Park School!

Signed the ‘Moth Club’.

Katrina Hart visits Avanti Park /avantipark/2023/06/15/katrina-hart-visits-avanti-park/ /avantipark/2023/06/15/katrina-hart-visits-avanti-park/#respond Thu, 15 Jun 2023 14:51:08 +0000 /avantipark/?p=2458 We had a really inspirational visit from Paralympian Katrina Hart this week. She visited Avanti Park to share her amazing life story and her journey to being able to compete at the highest level possible. The children enjoyed a very active session to music around a circuit of activities followed by an assembly where they found out more about Katrina’s life and were given an opportunity to ask questions. We would like to thank Katrina and her sports partner Tom for giving our children such a positive and memorable experience!

Avanti Park Achieve 100% in Career Benchmarks /avantipark/2023/06/13/avanti-park-achieve-100-in-career-benchmarks/ /avantipark/2023/06/13/avanti-park-achieve-100-in-career-benchmarks/#respond Tue, 13 Jun 2023 10:48:13 +0000 /avantipark/?p=2443 We are delighted to announce that Avanti Park School has gained 100% on all of the Gatsby Benchmarks. This is the framework for schools to fulfil in order to deliver a high quality careers programme to all pupils. The current statutory requirement is for only secondary schools to work towards these benchmarks. However, we are one of the only local schools that delivers a career programme across both primary and secondary, from reception upwards. This helps to ensure that younger pupils are able to learn about a wide and diverse range of careers and pathways, and to have career stereotypes challenged early on. So far this academic year, there have been 21 different careers activities delivered across the school. These include university trips, apprenticeship talks, work experience programme, one-to-one careers guidance, careers talks and industry-led workshops, with even more activities planned for the summer term.

Rose Hiron-Grimes, who is the Careers Link Governor at the school says ‘This achievement represents a big team effort. Particular thanks should go to the Careers Lead, Brendan Bayew, and also the Personal Development Lead Alison Armstrong, who have put in so much effort to facilitate these activities across all classes. We would also like to thank our Enterprise Adviser, Karen Groot from Wessex Water, who volunteers her time to help support the careers programme. Many parents have also come in to the school to deliver talks and careers activities, especially during National Careers Week in March. This achievement belongs to us all and we are really proud of our careers programme at Avanti Park School.’
